I love doing movie concepts, and this is no exception. This is a movie concept custom action figure for Ultraman of the Crime Syndicate of America if he were to appear in the current DC Cinematic Universe. The body is a Movie Masters Man of Steel Superman, with the head of a DC Universe Classics New 52 Aquaman. I felt the hair and facial expression on the Aquaman figure were perfect for Ultraman. All I had to do was paint his hair and eyebrows, and paint the neck of the body to match the skintone. I smoothed out the detail in the shield emblem, and crafted the big “U” out of polystyrene and glued it in place. I repainted the entire body, giving it a dark wash and then dry brushing some lighter blue to really bring out the sculpt. After painting the belt details red and repainting a Man of Steel figure stand to match the new shield emblem (which can be viewed in the video below), Ultraman is ready to form the Crime Syndicate of America!

New Custom Figures – Doomstroke and Justice Lords Batman (Movie Concept)

Hey everyone. Back again with some new custom action figures. This week I bring you some DC Comics goodness. First up, I have a movie concept Justice Lords Batman figure, complete with a Nolan inspired fabric cape! And I also have one that many of you may not even know about, Doomstroke! Doomstroke is an amalgam of Doomsday and Deathstroke that appeared briefly in the Superman/Batman story “Night and Day”, which largely took place in a universe where a bunch of DC characters were amalgamated into one another. I love mashups like that, so I couldn’t resist. Just click on each photo below to take you to the fully custom gallery. Also be sure to check out the videos I made for my custom Justice Lords Batman and custom Doomstroke to see some exclusive WIP (work in progress) photos! Thanks for looking.

News – DC Universe Classics Doomsday Unleashed Will Be…You Get the Idea

For those who haven’t heard by now, Mattel announced on their Facebook page the other day that the once thought dead DC Universe Classics Doomsday Unleashed figure in fact being released towards the end of this year. This came on the heels of some leaked packaged photos of the Doomsday Unleashed figure that Mattel wrote off as old packaged samples that the fans were never supposed to see. Apparently this was some misdirection until the official announcement, which is stirring some controversy amongst collectors. Many are feeling cheated for “having to buy” the Containment Suit Doomsday figure, thinking it would be the only one ever made. Me personally, I would have bought that version regardless, because when it comes to DC (especially DC Universe Classics), I’m all in, and I couldn’t be more excited about Doomsday Unleashed.

News – DC Universe Classics Super Powers Figures Revealed!

For a while now, Mattel has been hinting that there would be a “last hurrah” for the 6″ Four Horsemen styled DC Universe Classics action figures, and that it would be shown off at the 2014 New York Toy Fair. People speculated that it would be the Super Powers light blue Superman, Mr. Mxyzptlk, to name a couple. Well the speculation is over. Mattel has revealed that later this year they will be releasing 6 figures, all homages to the vintage Kenner Super Powers line! The figures will be Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Gold Superman, the Riddler (Hal Jordan repainted as the Riddler just like the vintage Super Powers figure), and Mr. Mxyzptlk! These will round out the rest of the DCUC Kenner homages, and will each come with a collect & connect piece to build Super Powers Kalibak! Not only that, but they will all come in special Super Powers styled packaging as well, with each Kalibak piece coming in a separate poly bag. Each figure is set to be $30 apiece.

It’s a shame we never got this version of the Red Hood from Mattel in the DC Universe Classics line. We did get Jason Todd as Red Hood, but in a costume he only wore for a few issues. This is clearly the more popular version, so I just had to do my take on the character. He’s made with the upper body of Mr. Terrific, the lower body from Jack Knight Starman, Sportsmaster Boots, Sandman hands, and a Terry McGinnis head. I had to cut Starman’s legs off at the shin and grafted the Sportsmaster boots to them and blended them in with Apoxie Sculpt. Speaker wire was used for the seam on his shirt. The helmeted head is from an electric Superman Blue sculpted over and painted to give a realistic metallic sheen. I gave him holsters for his pistol and knife and made sure they wouldn’t interfere with the articulation. After painting everything up, I gave him a crowbar, and now he’s ready to take his revenge on the Joker and show Batman how to reall clean the streets of Gotham!

Deathstroke is one of my favorite comic book characters ever, and I absolutely love his design in the Arkham Origins video game. I was excited when Mattel said they were making a figure of his appearance in the game, and I think the figure looks great. Unfortunately, that’s about all it does. While it has quite a bit of articulation, most of it is useless due to pointlessly being hindered by the figure’s sculpt. So I shaved some plastic from around the elbows and knees and doubled their range of motion. I also sliced the legs at the thighs and added thigh rotators, and even completely reworked the feet into actual, functional rocker ankles to help with stability and natural posing. Then I gave the figure a very specific silver dry brushing to make his armor look used and worn to match the game. I also took a DCUC Slade Wilson head cast and fully painted it, trying to make it look realistic as possible. I even gave him a big scar on his face to match the video game. So now Deathstroke has two alternate heads, and a full range of poseability. He’s now ready to fulfill the contract on Batman’s head and claim his prize!

Deadshot is the result of an amalgam of inspiration, mostly from the animated film Gotham Knight, but also from the Arkham City video game. I loved Deadshot’s design in Gotham Knight, with his big hat and trench coat, so I took a ML Nick Fury coat and repainted it, and the hat is from a Mezco The Spirit “Octopus” figure, also repainted. The head started out as a DCUC Blue Beetle that I sculpted and painted over to make him at least partially resemble Deadshot in the Arkham City video game. The finishing touches were switching out his fists for open hands so he could actually hold a rifle, and now Deadshot is ready to take on Batman (from afar of course).

New Custom Figure – The Flash TV Series Style

The Flash TV series is an underrated gem. Yes, it’s corny in a very early 90’s way, but the writing is solid and the acting is pretty good. The pilot might as well be a made for TV movie about the Flash. So. I wanted to capture the essence of the Flash from the show in action figure form. Hopefully I’ve done John Wesley Shipp’s version of the Flash justice. Make sure to click the picture below to check out the full photo set and a detailed description of how I made this custom of the Flash from the TV series. Thanks for looking!
