New Custom Figures – Doomstroke and Justice Lords Batman (Movie Concept)

Hey everyone. Back again with some new custom action figures. This week I bring you some DC Comics goodness. First up, I have a movie concept Justice Lords Batman figure, complete with a Nolan inspired fabric cape! And I also have one that many of you may not even know about, Doomstroke! Doomstroke is an amalgam of Doomsday and Deathstroke that appeared briefly in the Superman/Batman story “Night and Day”, which largely took place in a universe where a bunch of DC characters were amalgamated into one another. I love mashups like that, so I couldn’t resist. Just click on each photo below to take you to the fully custom gallery. Also be sure to check out the videos I made for my custom Justice Lords Batman and custom Doomstroke to see some exclusive WIP (work in progress) photos! Thanks for looking.

This one may seem wacky for a lot of you, but trust me Doomstroke is a real character. Not many people remember him, but he appeared briefly in the Superman/Batman storyline “Night and Day”, which took place in an alternate reality where a bunch of DC characters were amalgamated into new ones. I love mashups in general, because they have the potential to yield something truly creative, so I had to make Doomstroke. Most of Doomstroke is made from a DCUC Deathstroke, with some pieces from a DCSH Doomsday. I sculpted the Deathstroke mask over the Doomsday head, as well as the eye patch. The knot and strips on the back of the mask come from a Hasbro ML Elektra. I used the biceps and upper forearms from Doomsday, glued them to Deathstroke’s gloves, and cut the tops off Deathstroke’s biceps and glued them to the top of Doomsday’s biceps so they have a bit of sleeve to them. The rest is just strategic gluing. I removed all the spikes I could from Doomsday and cut them up, and glued them all over Doomstroke. I even added some tiny spikes on his eyebrows to make them more pronounced. I added some nicks and cuts to Deathstroke’s sword and some Doomsday spikes to the pommel and crossguard, then painted it to look like Doomsday’s bony spikes. I also added Doomsday’s belt and attached the sword scabbard and pistol to him. Some dry brushes and washes later, Doomstroke is ready to take on any hero, no matter what dimension they come from!

Deathstroke is one of my favorite comic book characters ever, and I absolutely love his design in the Arkham Origins video game. I was excited when Mattel said they were making a figure of his appearance in the game, and I think the figure looks great. Unfortunately, that’s about all it does. While it has quite a bit of articulation, most of it is useless due to pointlessly being hindered by the figure’s sculpt. So I shaved some plastic from around the elbows and knees and doubled their range of motion. I also sliced the legs at the thighs and added thigh rotators, and even completely reworked the feet into actual, functional rocker ankles to help with stability and natural posing. Then I gave the figure a very specific silver dry brushing to make his armor look used and worn to match the game. I also took a DCUC Slade Wilson head cast and fully painted it, trying to make it look realistic as possible. I even gave him a big scar on his face to match the video game. So now Deathstroke has two alternate heads, and a full range of poseability. He’s now ready to fulfill the contract on Batman’s head and claim his prize!

News – 3.75″ Injustice Gods Among Us Action Figures Coming From DC Collectibles

Injustice Gods Among Us 3.75" Green Arrow and Deathstroke from DC CollectiblesDC Collectibles is delving into the 3 3/4″ action figure market once again with figures based on the upcoming video game Injustice: Gods Among Us. So far there are two sets announced, each one coming with two figures. The first, which you can see pictures of after the jump, is Green Arrow and Deathstroke. The second set announced will be Wonder Woman and Solomon Grundy.

Just like with their 3 3/4″ Green Lantern line that was released solely as convention exclusives, these will be packed with articulation and character appropriate accessories. Unlike the Green Lantern line, these are believed to be released in comic and specialty shops. It’s also possible you might see these pop up at Game Stop and other video game stores, but that’s unconfirmed as of now.

They’re set to be released in April of 2013, to coincide with the release of the video game, and will retail for $29.95 per set.
