New Custom Figures – Armored Batman with Light Up Eyes and Movie Repaint Batman!

Hey everyone. Now that Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice is here, I wanted to celebrate with some customs! I bring you two this week. The first is a repainted DC Comics Multiverse Batman v Superman Batman. He’s been repainted head to toe to be more realistic and movie accurate, had the weird cowl texture sanded down, given a new fabric cape, and I’ve given him a grapnel gun, and a movie accurate batarang I made out of styrene. The second is Armored Batman with light up eyes!. With some customizing magic, I added an LED inside the figure so Armored Batman’s eyes light up in that awesome intimidating way like in the movie. Not only that, but this one has also been fully repainted to look more realistic, and he’s got a fabric cape, and I even made him a Kryptonite spear, like the one he uses in the film. I’m really proud of how I was able to fit the wiring, switch, and battery compartment in the figure.

Be sure to check out the pages for each custom to see lots more pics, and read up on how they were made. Also, the Youtube videos for my Batman and Armored Batman custom figures have exclusive WIP photos! The Batman and Armored Batman customs are also up for auction on eBay this week. Batman’s armored look in Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice is pretty cool, and the Mattel DC Multiverse figure is awesome, but he’s even better with light up eyes! I had to do some heavy modding to this figure to get it to work, since there’s very little room inside the figure for wiring. It took every bit of customizing trickery I know, but now Batman has some awesome and intimidating light up eyes. I used a bright white LED that fits inside the head, with some fogged up clear styrene behind the eye holes to help diffuse the light. I made sure the switch to turn it on and off, and the battery compartment were easily accessible on his back. I removed the cape and added a fabric one, because I thought it looked much better, and hides the switch and battery as an added bonus! The figure has also been given a full repaint, with dark washes, and metallic highlights for a realistic feel. Of course I couldn’t make this figure without giving Batman his Kryptonite Spear! This is the weapon he fashions in the movie to use against Superman, so I had to recreate it. With his light up eyes, kryptonite spear, and grenade launcher, Armored Batman is ready to lay the beat down on that Kryptonian menace, and any other baddies in his way!

The Mattel DC Multiverse Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice Batman has a pretty good sculpt, it just lacks in the paint department. I wanted to give him a full movie accurate, realistic repaint. So I gave all of the gray areas a dark wash, with some light highlinting to really bring out all the detail in the sculpt. I painted the scallops on his gloves gold to match the movie. I cut off the cape and heavily modified the cowl so I could glue it down to the body. Then, I attached a fabric cape for better posing and aesthetics. Of course the head was repainted to look more like Ben Affleck, including his 5 O’Clock shadow! I also sanded down the weird texture on the cowl to match the neck piece. Then, I modified a grapnel gun accessory from one of the basic Dawn of Justice Batman figures. I made it smaller and more compact so it didn’t look quite so ridiculous. I painted it to look like the one he uses in the movie, and fabricated a fully movie accurate batarang out of styrene for him to hold and throw at some criminals! Now Batman is ready to dispense all sorts of righteous Gotham justice!

NECA Superman, Batman, & Joker 7″ DC Movie Action Figures Revealed!

Last year, NECA surprised the entire toy collecting community with their 7″ scaled Michael Keaton 1989 Batman figure. The response was so huge it broke eBay. No, really. Not content with performing just one miracle, NECA Toys has just performed three more. I’m pretty sure this means Randy Falk can achieve sainthood now. NECA just revealed 7″ scaled Christopher Reeve Superman, Adam West Batman, and Heath Ledger Joker action figures! These figures celebrate three specific eras of DC Entertainment movies. These figures were made possible through a special deal with Warner Bros that has the figures packaged with a DVD and sold exclusively through the Warner Bros eBay store. They’re up as a pre sale right now, to be shipped out in November. If you’re interested, be sure to get these while you can! I love doing movie concepts, and this is no exception. This is a movie concept custom action figure for Ultraman of the Crime Syndicate of America if he were to appear in the current DC Cinematic Universe. The body is a Movie Masters Man of Steel Superman, with the head of a DC Universe Classics New 52 Aquaman. I felt the hair and facial expression on the Aquaman figure were perfect for Ultraman. All I had to do was paint his hair and eyebrows, and paint the neck of the body to match the skintone. I smoothed out the detail in the shield emblem, and crafted the big “U” out of polystyrene and glued it in place. I repainted the entire body, giving it a dark wash and then dry brushing some lighter blue to really bring out the sculpt. After painting the belt details red and repainting a Man of Steel figure stand to match the new shield emblem (which can be viewed in the video below), Ultraman is ready to form the Crime Syndicate of America!

New Custom Figures – Doomstroke and Justice Lords Batman (Movie Concept)

Hey everyone. Back again with some new custom action figures. This week I bring you some DC Comics goodness. First up, I have a movie concept Justice Lords Batman figure, complete with a Nolan inspired fabric cape! And I also have one that many of you may not even know about, Doomstroke! Doomstroke is an amalgam of Doomsday and Deathstroke that appeared briefly in the Superman/Batman story “Night and Day”, which largely took place in a universe where a bunch of DC characters were amalgamated into one another. I love mashups like that, so I couldn’t resist. Just click on each photo below to take you to the fully custom gallery. Also be sure to check out the videos I made for my custom Justice Lords Batman and custom Doomstroke to see some exclusive WIP (work in progress) photos! Thanks for looking.

Don’t forget to check out the video I made for this custom Doomstroke figure near the bottom of the page to see some exclusive WIP (work in progress) photos!

This one may seem wacky for a lot of you, but trust me Doomstroke is a real character. Not many people remember him, but he appeared briefly in the Superman/Batman storyline “Night and Day”, which took place in an alternate reality where a bunch of DC characters were amalgamated into new ones. I love mashups in general, because they have the potential to yield something truly creative, so I had to make Doomstroke. Most of Doomstroke is made from a DCUC Deathstroke, with some pieces from a DCSH Doomsday. I sculpted the Deathstroke mask over the Doomsday head, as well as the eye patch. The knot and strips on the back of the mask come from a Hasbro ML Elektra. I used the biceps and upper forearms from Doomsday, glued them to Deathstroke’s gloves, and cut the tops off Deathstroke’s biceps and glued them to the top of Doomsday’s biceps so they have a bit of sleeve to them. The rest is just strategic gluing. I removed all the spikes I could from Doomsday and cut them up, and glued them all over Doomstroke. I even added some tiny spikes on his eyebrows to make them more pronounced. I added some nicks and cuts to Deathstroke’s sword and some Doomsday spikes to the pommel and crossguard, then painted it to look like Doomsday’s bony spikes. I also added Doomsday’s belt and attached the sword scabbard and pistol to him. Some dry brushes and washes later, Doomstroke is ready to take on any hero, no matter what dimension they come from!

News – DC Universe Classics Doomsday Unleashed Will Be…You Get the Idea

For those who haven’t heard by now, Mattel announced on their Facebook page the other day that the once thought dead DC Universe Classics Doomsday Unleashed figure in fact being released towards the end of this year. This came on the heels of some leaked packaged photos of the Doomsday Unleashed figure that Mattel wrote off as old packaged samples that the fans were never supposed to see. Apparently this was some misdirection until the official announcement, which is stirring some controversy amongst collectors. Many are feeling cheated for “having to buy” the Containment Suit Doomsday figure, thinking it would be the only one ever made. Me personally, I would have bought that version regardless, because when it comes to DC (especially DC Universe Classics), I’m all in, and I couldn’t be more excited about Doomsday Unleashed.

News – DC Universe Classics Super Powers Figures Revealed!

For a while now, Mattel has been hinting that there would be a “last hurrah” for the 6″ Four Horsemen styled DC Universe Classics action figures, and that it would be shown off at the 2014 New York Toy Fair. People speculated that it would be the Super Powers light blue Superman, Mr. Mxyzptlk, to name a couple. Well the speculation is over. Mattel has revealed that later this year they will be releasing 6 figures, all homages to the vintage Kenner Super Powers line! The figures will be Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Gold Superman, the Riddler (Hal Jordan repainted as the Riddler just like the vintage Super Powers figure), and Mr. Mxyzptlk! These will round out the rest of the DCUC Kenner homages, and will each come with a collect & connect piece to build Super Powers Kalibak! Not only that, but they will all come in special Super Powers styled packaging as well, with each Kalibak piece coming in a separate poly bag. Each figure is set to be $30 apiece.
