Custom Figure – It’s 80’s Cartoon Villain Week with The Shredder & Mumm-Ra!

Yep, you read the title right. I’m dubbing this week 80’s Cartoon Villain Week here at Mint Condition Customs, as I’m bringing you all custom figures of The Shredder (the constant thorn in the side of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and Mumm-Ra the Ever Living (the evil undead menace to the Thundercats). The Shredder is based on his look in the current Nickelodeon cartoon series. I had to combine the parts from both of the current Shredder figures to make him fully poseable, since neither one has great articulation on its own. He was also given a full repaint to help bring out the details and make his armor shiny!

Mumm-Ra was something I started a long time ago, but only recently finished once the idea of this week’s theme dawned on me. I took the Thundercats Classics Mumm-Ra figure and installed some wiring in his big hollow torso and gave him light up eyes! With just the flip of a switch on his back Mumm-Ra’s eyes glow an eerie red, as if summoning the ANCIENT SPIRITS OF EVIL! He was also given some poseable bandages, handmade cape accurate to the cartoon, and a full repaint to look more realistic. Be sure to click the links below to see the full photo sets and descriptions for how each custom was made.

Ever since I first saw the Thundercats Classics Mumm-Ra action figure, I saw a lot of potential. The big hollow torso meant I could fit some wiring in there, and that was what made me give him light up eyes! I’m a sucker for gimmicks like that, so I had to do it. I made sure it wouldn’t interfere with the head movement, so the head still retains full articulation and stays lit up the whole time with a flip of a switch on the back. I also took some poseable ribbon and made him some bandages that can be wrapped around the figure any way you like, and even posed to look like they’re shooting out, as if Mumm-Ra is about to grab one of the Thundercats to mummify! And of course I had to give Mumm-Ra his awesome cape. I took some red and black fabric and combined them to be show accurate, and made the cape look tattered and worn. It looks cool, is easily attachable and detachable from the figure, and moves perfectly in conjuction with the arms of the figure. After a full repaint to make him look more realistic, such as making his gold armor look ancient and rusted, Mumm-Ra is ready to summon the ANCIENT SPIRITS OF EVIL to take down those pesky Thundercats!

News – Thundercats Officially Cancelled

Thundercats RIPThis is sad news indeed. The show was really good, and I was having fun collecting the toys. But it seems that both the toy lines and the cartoon have officially been cancelled. It’s not incredibly surprising, because Bandai hasn’t shown off anything new in a long time. They had nothing at Toy Fair last February, and nothing at SDCC either. There’s no telling what this means for future Thundercats figures. Will Bandai keep the license, or will it go to someone else? Nobody is sure right now. A lot of fans are hopeful that Bandai Japan will make S.H. Figuarts of the Thundercats, but that may be a pipe dream at best.

For the full story of the Thundercats cancellation, head on over to Toy News International. They have the full scoop.

Review – Tygra – Thundercats (6″ Modern), Bandai

6" Thundercats Modern Tygra Action Figure Lion-O Cheetara Panthro Mumm-Ra

The current fate of the Thundercats toy lines from Bandai are dubious at best. With the show being moved from Friday evenings to Saturday mornings, and with not much news coming out for the second season, and the latest waves of the 3 3/4 inch and 6 inch toy lines being near impossible to find anywhere, fans are left wondering if it’s just the end of the Thundercats.

According to Bandai themselves, the toy lines are not cancelled, and they have no plans to cancel them any time soon. Likewise, WB has said that the second season has been ordered and they are currently recording the episodes now. Still though, with how haphazard the toy line property has been handled, it doesn’t leave much confidence in fans. This figure in particular, Tygra, is possibly the hardest Thundercats toy to find. He’s from the 6″ modern toy line, and with him he completes the four main Thundercats in 6″ form. Because of this, he’s of course highly sought after. But due to distribution problems, or perhaps due to stores just not ordering any cases with him in it, means the best way to find him is to pay a high premium on the secondary market.

Try as I might to wait to find him in stores, I just couldn’t hold out any longer. I broke down and bought him on the secondary market. I just couldn’t wait to complete my main Thundercats team in the 6″ scale. Yes they still need to make Snarf, Wily Kit, and Wily Kat in 6″ scale, but to me as long as I have the four main cats I think I’ll be ok for now.

Tygra is definitely the best 6″ Thundercats figure released so far, but is that saying much? Was Tygra worth the wait? worth the price? Keep reading to find out!

News – Beware the Batman Cartoon Official, Thundercats May not be Returning

Cartoon Network Beware the BatmanCartoon Network released a press release yesterday from their Upfront presentation announcing new and returning series. DC may be pleased to know that the rumored “Beware the Batman” cartoon is officially coming out, and they can also expect the return of both Young Justice and Green Lantern. Star Wars have something to look forward to as well, with the return of Clone Wars for another season. However, one show that seemed to be missing was the new ThunderCats cartoon. The fact that the show was not listed in the press release could be a dark foreshadowing of its future. Once official word on its cancellation or renewal is announced, the news will be passed along to you. For now though, check out the press release with descriptions of all the new and returning shows, as well as a larger version of the teaser image for Beware the Batman.

Review – 6 Inch Modern Cheetara – Thundercats, Bandai

Bandai is definitely going strong with their Thundercats toy line. Releasing a plethora of figures on multiple scales surely can’t be an easy task. I have to say though, that overall I am a fan. I’m digging the figures, and loving that I can have playsets and vehicles for the small figures, but still collect all the characters on a 6 inch scale as well (my preferred scale to collect in). Cheetara is definitely a main character, and fans have been asking for her for a long time. How does she stack up?
