New Custom Action Figure – Metal Gear Solid 5 Quiet!

I’m back with a new custom action figure! Actual semi regular updates! Crazy, I know. Anyway, my latest custom figure is that of the silent assassin Quiet, from the video game Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. This was a commission for a client who wanted a figure of Quiet in the 6″ Marvel Legends scale. She was really fun to make. I particularly enjoyed sculpting the hair and the bikini…BECAUSE I GOT TO PRACTICE SCULPTING FABRIC AND NO OTHER REASON GET YOUR MIND OUT OF THE GUTTER. It was a lot of fun cobbling together her harness as well. Be sure to visit the page for this custom for the full photo set and details on how it was made. And check out the Youtube video for this custom action figure to see exclusive WIP photos! Thanks for taking a look. See You next time. [INSERT A QUIET PLACE MEME HERE]

Quiet is the mute assassin from Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain who breathes through her skin and will suffocate if she wears too much clothing (very subtle). She’s a unique and interesting character with a memorable look, and I had to do her justice in action figure form. Quiet is made from a Hasbro Marvel Legends Ms. Marvel figure. The hair is partially from a movie X-Men Jean Grey glued on with some custom sculpting over it. Her glove cuff and bikini are completely sculpted as well. The boots came from a Toy Biz X-Men Classics Cyclops. Her harness is cobbled together from a NECA Predator Dutch vest and belt, some straps and buckles from a Dark Knight Prototype Batman, some pouches, and a knife. The entire figure was painted for accuracy to the video game. Various shades of grey blended with skin tone were done to achieve the ripped leggings. I just had to finish it off by giving her a cool looking rifle, and now Quiet is ready to take on Venom Snake!

This was a commissioned piece for someone who wanted a 6″ scaled F-Zero Captain Falcon action figure, based on his alternate black outfit from the Nintendo game Super Smash Bros. Melee. For the base, I used a DC Universe Classics Batman, with the boots from an Arkham City Batman, the head of a DC Universe Classics Flash, and the belt/gun from a DCUC Starman. The head, boots, torso, and arms were sculpted onto with meticulous detail using Aves Apoxie Sculpt, with his visor being made of sheet polystyrene. Then the figure was painted with the colors matching the video game reference.

I wanted to give this piece something extra, so I decided to make a Falcon Punch accessory effect. It was sculpted using hot glue, over his arm so it would perfectly fit. I had to cover the arm with cling wrap first so the glue wouldn’t stick to it, and I used some clear packing tape as the guides for the wings and tail. This was a long and delicate process that I feel really paid off. Then I painted it using clear yellow, orange, and red for the fiery effect. And now Captain Falcon is ready to take on any challenger!

Unfortunately I didn’t get the NECA Street Fighter 4 figures when they were first released. I saw some color variants of Ryu, Chun-Li, and Akuma at Toys R Us a couple of weeks ago. Apparently they’re some last minute released from NECA to capitalize on Street Fighter before they’re license runs out and moves to Jazwares. Anyway, I saw the figure and he had a dark blue suit and gray hair. I’m the kind of guy who likes owning the most iconic version of a character as a figure, and I didn’t feel like searching the internet for the first release Akuma so I just painted him up instead.

I painted the gi the light gray-blue that the initial release had, his belt, wrist wraps, and sandals brown, and his hair red. I also painted the symbol on his back that apparently NECA didn’t even add on the first release of the Akuma figure. I felt it was an injustice so I added it and now he’s complete!

New Custom Figures – Kenner Style Aliens Drake, SNES AVP Bat Alien

Hey everyone. I’m back with more new customizing goodness for you. I bring two new customs from one of my favorite franchises ever, Aliens. I have a custom Bat Alien designed after the character from the SNES Alien Vs. Predator game from the early 90’s, repainted with a more traditional Xenomorph color scheme (props to Jin Saotome for the recipe). I also have a custom of the Colonial Marine Smart Gun operator Drake! He’s based off of the look of the old 90’s Kenner action figure. You might remember a while back when I did a custom updating the design of the Kenner Sgt. Apone figure. Well, Drake is a continuation of that series. And yes, I definitely plan to update more. Just click on the pictures below to lead you to the corresponding page, where you can read the full descriptions for how I made the Bat Alien and Drake customs, as well as view the entire gallery of pictures. Until next time!

I’ve delved into remaking some of the old 90’s Kenner designs already, but now I wanted to try my hand at some of the old video game designs as well. The Bat Alien Xenomorph is inspired by the design of the same character from the early 90’s Alien Vs. Predator SNES game. The main body is a NECA Xenomorph Warrior, the wings come from a Marvel Legends BAF Annihilus, and the feet come from a Kenner Flying Queen Xenomorph. Props to Jin Saotome for this recipe. I wanted to use the same recipe, but give the Bat Alien a more traditional xenomorph-like paint job. I spliced the Annihilus wings onto the Xenomorph’s arms, and hollowed out the Flying Queen feet so the NECA ball joints could fit in them. I sculpted over the dome as well, smoothing it out with divots lining each side to match the SNES game design. One paint job later using black, various shades of gray and green, and a glossy overcoat to give him a slimy appearance, and the Bat Alien is complete and ready to give the Colonial Marines and Predators a run for their money!
